DANISH architect Joern Utzon who designed the Sydney Opera House has reportedly died. Mr Utzon's son Kim says his father died in his sleep early yesterday, Associated Press has reported. He was 90.
Utzon never saw the Sydney Opera House completed, as he quit his post and went back to Denmark and never returned, because of arguments and interference from the State Government after massive (an understatement) cost blowouts.
Most people agree looking back that any cost was worth it to build such an iconic building, but at the time the costs were deemed unacceptable. As a result, the interior of the building was not completed as per Utzon's design, and as a result is functionally a rubbish opera house.
Utzon's son has been participating in a redesign of the building's interior to make it world class functionally, not just visually.

It's a shame Utzon never saw what was an outstanding achievement by anyone's standards.
