I just saw Wicked, the musical, for the 2nd time and it reaffirms my opinion that it is one of, if not the best plays to ever go through Broadway. I have seen quite a few other plays that have been highly rated, and nothing is even CLOSE to how good Wicked is. If anyone had the chance to see this performance, do so. The tickets for Pittsburgh were sold out for every performance for 2 weeks with 24 hours of availability.
I will give you a little bit of a breakdown without giving anything away.
The story is about The Wizard of Oz, told from the side of the side of the Wicked Witch of the West. It not only shatters the whole story you knew, but i have been unable to watch even one minute of the movie and i don't think i will ever be able to again. The story, which draws only lightly on the book, is probably the most complex and intriguing i have ever encountered. It would have made a good book on its own. The acting of both groups i have seen was top quality. The singing: the best i have ever heard. The scenery, odd, but very good quality and fits in. The lighting and use of "special effects" made certain parts of the performance stand out than any scene in a movie ever could. The end of the first act (for those of you who have seen it) destroyed all the other performances i have ever seen. If the story was just the first act, it would be well worth the cost of tickets.
for those of you who are interested, I'd also recommend at least listening to the music from the performance. It wont give you shivers like it will if you have seen the performance, but its top quality and tells the story decently well.
Anyone else see the performance?
