For you travelers out there, what are some of the countries ya'll have enjoyed visiting?

I've hit up 6 so far, but Ireland takes the lead with Qatar coming in a close second.

The Ireland countryside looks amazing, hopefully I can afford to go back there someday(either that or Amsterdam biggrin.gif), plus bagpipes r0x0rs my b0x0rs

I'm planning a backpacking trip once I'm done with high school this year and I'm still not sure where to go. I'd like to go Eastern Europe, but I value my life right now.

Just drawing from my own experience:

- Spain: beautiful cities like Granada, Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla... + Sierra Nevada is really nice. On the other hand Spanish cuisine is pretty heavy with lots of eggs and patato. But Barcelona is one of my favorite cities, young and cool, cosmopolitan... everything you'd wish for!
- Italy: same thing: stunningly beautiful historical places like Firenze , Verona or Rome, and one the best cuisines in the world! Pizza, pasta, everything is great and prepared with love! one of the cradles of western civilazation. You should visit it at least once in your lifetime
- Czechia: Prague, Brno, Karlovy Vary etc: amazing historical cities, and... really fantastic but cheap Pilsener beers like Urquell, Staropramen, Velvet and... the real Budweiser ;-). And this country holds some of the most beautiful women of the world ;-) No kidding, just walk the streets of Prague and drewl!
- Hungaria: Budapest is undoubtably one of the prettiest cities in the world. Ask RedAero
- Austria & Switserland: adorable mountain landscapes and very friendly people. Bit expensive though. Heavy cuisine with lotsa cream, meat, salt, sugar, beer and such.
- France: great cuisine - although heavy -, best wines of the world, unforgettable cities like Paris, Lyon, Dijon, Colmar, Strassbourg, Rouen, Avignon, Bordeaux, Nîmes, Aix-en-Provence... tons of history but not very friendly towards English speakers. If you speak/understand some French they'll adore you and do anything for you, if you don't, they'll frown upon you and ignore you! One of their favorite sayings: the Germans, our colleagues, the Belgians, our friends, the English, THE BASTARDS ;-). Same applies for Americans and other English natives
- Slovenia: this could be it for you!: mixture of German and Slavic culture, very friendly people, ok cuisine, great landscapes (southern Alpes, it's like Switserland, but then 25 °C), quite cheap but member of the EU so no administrative BS.
- Belgium: my native country. Were very good at: brewing undoubtably the best beers in the whole wide world, producing chocolate which makes all other chocolate seem like packaged excrements, and offer some of the finest, diversified cuisines of the world. It's almost impossible to find a bad restaurant in Belgium, but it 'll cost you up to € 20 a meal!
Brussels, Gand, Leuven, Tournai, Brughes etc. are historical cities with a medieval centre and lots of awesome sights.
- Holland: the 2nd greatest country after Belgium ;-)
Weed & hash are allowed, people are extremely correct and helpful! Amersterdam, The Hague, etc. are beautiful
- Germany: Germans are known for being rude and arrogant outside of their country, but also very hospitable and friendly when you visit them. München, Berlin etc. are just cool places to visit. Vibrant and lively. Oktoberfesten: great beer and great titties ;-) You need to be there to experience it
- Same for Britain: outside pof their country, English people are loud, annoying, drunk and just... expandible. In GB, their the nicest, friendliest, most hospitable people you've ever seen!! Che!!ers mate!

In Africa:

- Morocco: awesome desert sights and 4x4 desert trips, souks (= markets) with al imaginable products, friendly people but also a bit stressy. Lots of hash smoking idiots going for your money, so watch it!
- Tunesia: same. Cheap but very forgettable. Don't wast your money on it!
- Egypt: same, except for the pyramids! Dirty, extremely touristical, but neverthless: great.
- Jordan: great! Great people, great cuisine, fantastic overal. Visit Petra, the stone-carved city
- Congo. Something different. Wild life, rain forrests, monsoon seasons, impressions you'll remember for the rest of your life. People speak French or lingala/swahili, not simple! Say you're there on the invitation of a Belgian, and you'll be fine ;-
- South Africa, living here atm. Great wild life parks, very hartly people, lotsa crime so watch your steps! Joburg, Soweto, KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, Port Elisabert, Pretoria and especially Cape Town, Pieterburg, Sun city are places you'll never forget! Mixture of Europe, Africa and US. The wildlife parks here are awesome.

Pilsner Pilsner is thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

so I quite know Plzeň, been there quite a few times, in Prague as well bout 10 times, dont go to Karlovy Vary, those aggressive Ruskies will make u disappear biggrin.gif jk

When you mention women, its well known Czech women usually are not very good looking comparing to ours biggrin.gif
At least in Plzeň girls were usually as tall as me and even higher, I am 182-3 cm tall- close to the German border some men as high as 220 cm lmao.gif , so I guess thats why theyre so big lol. In the east, people are smaller.- economical situation affects that as well.

LoaH the shameful who never saw beauties of Slovakia-as well as natural and historical from close thumbsdown.gif tongue.gif but goes somewhere to Africa.

You should/nt go to Albania/Kosovo, cause venturing there should be allowed only on your own risk. After US bombed Kosovo-Serbia for free and with current US intervention in Georgia, anti-US sentiments are quite high about everywhere round here, but that does not mean ppl should show you they dont like you because of your gov. smile.gif And Serbs are not bloodthirsty barbarians west has been portraying them all the time to justify ge.... See for yourself if you want.
How long the vacation should be? So you could cross multiple countries if you had enough time.

Eastern Europe I hope is not your definition of countries behind ´iron curtain´. Ppl round here are quite sensitive about geography and its kind of an insult when for example sb says Čech.rep. is in Eastern Europe.- which is Ukraine, Russia etc.

Or you should go to Russia biggrin.gif
so after all you become red smile.gif

if i had to go anywhere again it would be the Okovongo delta in Botswana. Not the best country, but the delta was the most beautiful place i have ever been. We stayed in heavy canvas tents that were almost large enough to be called a hotel room. Wake up in the morning, eat, get a guide and some pollers and have them poll you around the channels in the delta. find some good land, then go off walking. You would see Elephants up to there ears in water just walking around. Giraffes on land eating off the trees, hippo's relaxing on the banks and a whole lot more.
Lord of all Hedgehogs
Thomas, I just kept it to the countries I really visited, so don't be insulted if your dear Slowakia + it's women aren't mentioned!!
But I'm sure you're fine Slowakian females are similar to the Czechians: longs legs, blonde hair, all C-cups and willing to be subjected to LoaH's every whim tongue.gif

Zephoid: the Okavanga was the most beautiful place i've ever seen, just amazing. A river stranding in land. Lions, rhino's, hippo's, elephants... Just everyting within arm's reach. Ridiculously expensive though, we paid € 450 pp for 2 nights! But I understand they want to keep the big tourism away
TomaSvk
heheh LoaH biggrin.gif
Its Slovakia in English, Slovensko in my own and Slowakei in German
My name doesnt have h in it tongue.gif hammer.gif
Russianlynxy
Tomas, if I ever go to Serbia or anywhere in the Balkans for that matter... it will be fully armed and in a militia uniform.

I'm sure you know why, we discussed this in PM wink.gif

Isn't Karlovy Vary where nice Russian and Czech girls give you a mudbath? as so I've heard...

Red: your life is worth risking for the sake of visiting Eastern Europe. lol Look at LOTH... he went to Africa - where there are giant insects, snakes, illnesses, and angry militias.
Zephoid
LotH: i went about 7-8 years ago and it was much cheaper then. The dollar was strong and tourism wasn't that busy. in fact, we had the whole camp we were in to ourselves for a day and a half before another family came

Two words. Cheap alcohol.

Oh and it's not as "eastern European" as one might think.

Umm which Congo is this? The bigger and deadlier one or the smaller one where you slightly less likely to lose your head.
Lord of all Hedgehogs
the bigger, our former colony
the other one is officially called Congo-Brazzaville

and no, it's not always safe, you should always watch your neck! And have someone to "escort" you, certainly the first time!

I may have a slightly biased opinion of the place after reading a friend's history term paper on the modern Congo. It seemed like everything that could possibly go wrong ever, went wrong. Quite sad considering the wildlife there.

I planned on travelling to Greece and Italy in a year or two but with the economy sucking at the moment I may wait a bit longer.
Velvet_Revolver
If you go to Greece, PLEASE don't waste your money on going to Athens !! This city is AWFUL... There's no other word.
The rest is beautiful though, the Meteora ( nod.gif ), peloponessos, and the money you saved from not going to Athens, you should definitely spend it on a boat trip to santorini (an islet of the cyclaedes). Hot, desertic, but quite worth it (but everything's damn pricey on those islands...).

Oh, and...

yeah, bad times for travelling to Europe! the USD is way too weak, so expensive euros atm... But that'll change! Some years ago, it was the other way around.
Good times for us Europeans to visit the States, but unfortunately I have no time atm!
TomaSvk
Come here to Slovakia, we dont have a good tourism propaganda, so I must do it smile.gif
Its definitely cheaper than Czech republic, easpecially if you go to the east.
There are many unique medieval stuff, some even from ancient ages, many castles, beautiful mountains and country in general
Ppl in general should be okay, we understand each other language with ease but our behaviour is different- I meant Czech and Slovak lang.
Its quite funny Ive been to Prague at least twice as more as in Bratislava, our capitol tongue.gif
Id like to get sometime on the Spišskı Hrad-a castle, being considered a ruin, reconstruction works are underway, its been used for some movies also like Dragonheart biggrin.gif -
Its roughly 100 km north-west from where I live, but I dont have a car and even when my bro goes around there to visit some family, they said, we dont have time, theres already to many ppl and such bs + fuel is expensive for us at least.

we dont have euros yet, but that is also why most stuff is so cheap-not in Bratislava though.

Food is cheap, if youd have little money you can have a good meal from 3-4 Eur. A kílo weighing bread costs about 1E- can be eaten, unlike most Czech bread types, most of them were better not to eat, but those made in Slovakia are very good and cheap at the same time. Now 1 Euro equals 30SKK and will remain that way as conversion kurz-dont know the word for it-read kurs. Since we entered EU food is growing more expensive but el.devices and so on have gone down about half.

And lynxy I dont know if its true about Kralovy Vary, but if yes... zomg.gif
and I agree with you that red shouldnt expose himself anywhere in the south with ´giant insects, snakes, illnesses, and angry militias´ biggrin.gif

As Lord of all Hedgehogs said come to my country Slovenia.

Our girls are beautiful, people are very friendly and the land is amazing. It`s also quite cheap especially gasoline, alcohol, cigarettes and food.

Right now the weather is ok.Not too hot not too cold.Oh yeah, we have the least amount of storms here not like in other country`s.

Where ever you go i hope you`ll enjoy it. thumbsup.gif
TomaSvk
because hes never been to Slovakia biggrin.gif

a friend told me, who is working in Slovenia that the weather there is madness, at the beginning of april 50cm of snow, few days ago incredible hot.

My country da best lol rolleyes.gif wub.gif wub.gif thumbsup.gif
what can I do about it tongue.gif

I'll second the Slovenia statement ... even though I've never been there. One of my friends is from there and she made it sound pretty damn nice. She said with sincerity (and she's well travelled and educated) that I should go to Slovenia before I go to Sweden (which was the first country I wanted to visit in Europe, but a place where you need a licence to drink!!!). Oh and Slovenia is so close to Czech Rep, Slovakia, Italy, Greece, Austria & Hungary so you'd be doing pretty well I think from there as a border hopping tourist.
Jonathan_Archer_nx01
When it comes to girls.....
Lots of countries claim that theirs are the best ones.

My opinion:
Out of all countries I have visited, I would say that Sweden has all rights to claim this.

Your friend is very wrong my friend. The last time we had snow in april was back in 2001.Winters here are "normal".We never have more than 50 cm of snow.Besides last 3-4 winters were very "cheap" with snow.No more than 15 cm at a time.Except for the mountains were they have 4 to 5 meters of snow, but up there are skiing places.

If you come to Slovenia send me a message when and where will you go and we might get together and go grab a beer or 15. thumbsup.gif

Im not saying that my country is the best but its great. It`s small.I live in the center in Ljubljana and it takes me about 2 hours max. to go to any border. So 2 hours and im on the beach.
TomaSvk
my friend told me when they came back to Slovenia it was so, even tho it melted next day-it was very late march. I dont say we dont have quite nice storms here lately and in nearby village it partially took down the metal part of roof from their church and tore some windows out of their fixed place- that never happened before. In our garden there was a tree missing a few parts, but that is all. I live nearby my village, so if theres winds its felt, but my home construction is sturdy and roof heavy, so its ok

Im currently working nowhere for some time, so unless I go with somebody, its no chance.
The friend I mentioned works somewhere in the district of LJ. At least hes got a work, problem is, Im not really willing to work for ppl that show youre something less, I better not work if they discriminate others- at home on the field theres enough work if nothing else. Better for less money but know youre not serving some extorter who counts money only.-this applies to working outside state mostly. Thats the problem for me when Id want to work somewhere and given my education my chance of working somewhere for good money is slim at best. I guess I will have to go to politics, when you see dumbasses representing a country, then Im sure at least as good as those lmao.gif

Slovenia sure has a unique geography, close to the sea, alps, in short everything close from anywhere. Europe is divided in many pieces, so I would like to stress its best to visit this ´eastern europe´so one can see alot more than anywhere else in much lesser space allowing or reaching more things in shorter time, not just one
