Full Version: Badass pictures from Ossetia 2008

Now with the war almost over - I've decided to collect some photo's I've found on Ossetia from abroad.
God bless the souls of 18 dead peacekeepers and 2,000 Ossetian civilians that fell victims of this conflict.

Please comment on the photos, but try to avoid political discussions as tempting as it may be. smile.gif

Chechen Regiment sent to fight in Ossetia. It's made up of mostly ethnic Chechen loyalists. This regiment even has their own Imam, I believe. Some used to fight against Russia, now they fight for Russia. They participated on the assault on Gori in mainland Georgia, and apparently kicked total ass.

Our Tankers

Ossetian de-facto president (Eduard Kokoity) fighting on the front-lines with Ossetian militia.

Our boys on BTRs with UN-peacekeeper markings.

Convoy coasting on the only road from Russia to South Ossetia.

More of the Chechen regiment holding Ossetian flag

Part of the Convoy that was evacuating Ossetian civi's

Thats awesome. Looks like a Zsu-23 on top of a BMD-3

Storming the Georgian mainland

Defending the Convoy

I think this guy wants to be back in the USSR. Unofficial photo

War is a terrible thing, so many dead people. Nevertheless, it is still fascinating. I think it must be something in the blood of mankind that has us so fascinated and in-awe of war, even though we know how terrible it is. Those are some excellent pictures. I'm sure you're probably not too fond of Georgians, but if you find some good pictures of Georgians in combat post those up too wink.gif

What guns is the soldier on the first pic holding, looks kinda wierd...

Just realized it is a SVD, just the strop that confused me

You bring up an interesting point:
Speaking for myself and I'm sure many other Russians at home and abroad who feel the same way: As much as we wanted Russia to succeed in this conflict something did not feel quite right - something almost close to the feeling of fratricide.

Some nice shots in there. I have enjoyed the ones that the news is passing around, very interesting to see this equipment in action. A few of those feel right out of some of our POE maps smile.gif

I would like to stress that this thread needs to remain non-political so it can remain. Feel free to post more images, but think twice before you comment on them or the situation presented in them.

Some nice pictures, especially the landscapes etc, although there beauty is opposite to the effects suffered by all, irrespective of polotics, religion, ethnicity, freedom and protection on all its levels.

God bless all those who have lost loved ones & livelyhood, lifestyles etc, On All Sides.

I second this. Based on the topic on the PoE debate forum there is a wide range of political views. The Associated Press have some interesting pictures of the fighting including some armoured vehicles that looked to me like M-60's, something that was previously unreported as part of Georgia's arsenal; http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Georgia-Unre...byCuXElQl1bbBAF

War porn I tell ye! Jeebus appeared in a dream to me and said this was wrong. Than Satan appeared and told me these pics are A ok because there's no nipple in it. Got really confused, drank a bottle of Famous Grouse with my buds and we deceided we'll decide about this tomorrow.
In short: could you please remove some of your own comments on the pics? Now that would make this thread really non-policital. Thanks for the pics, really nice and non seen here in the newspapers smile.gif

I guess the Ruskies didn't want to debut their Fullbacks yet? That's ok, I'll wait.

aight, aight, you're right. It's pretty obvious which side of the barricade I am on anyways. Most of the labels were just meant to clarify what's what.

Notice there's very little of the "new war toys". Why risk getting shot down in an expensive Fullback when you can expand the Su 24 which in this case can perform the same task. The only thing that's "old" on that aircraft you see is the airframe itself.

P.S. I think Reuters are the most hardcore when it comes to war pictures. I think they are the blue guys in helmets walking over to the BMP crew in "BMP taxi". They take some of their best photos under fire, lol

lolz...

any1 here read the Wall Street Journal? I had to chuckle when i read this passage this morning: "MIG helicopter gunships flew overhead in that direction." Obviously the writers and editors at one of the most well read newspapers in the world have no idea of what they are talking about.

I don't blame you for siding with your country, I'd probably do the same, but just not on these boards.
And now I'll shut up and enjoy the pics smile.gif

I went through all 167 pictures and didn't see a single M-60. All I saw was what I suppose were Russian T-72s or similar with ERA.

There was only about 7-8 pictures when i saw them and they were burnt out wrecks. I couldn't quite tell cos they were in the distance and wrecked but the turret shape looked like a 60 ... or maybe the T-54 (didn't that have a fairly high turret?)

It must have been said to the devs by US government that there will be war, with only a few months inaccuracy happy.gif No matter, the conflict was frozen, not resolved from 1992, but some ppl insisted they dont want peace and want to kill for land and influence. wacko.gif
Stuff like destruction of WTC was in RA2. Real ppl are inspired by war games. Bin Ladin was inspired while playing RA2 soviet campaign. biggrin.gif

Its really sad that there are people here in the states really thought that. I wonder if any of them screamed "Wolverines!!!!!" and charged up into the hills. I know I would!!!

I have located some real footage of the assault here.

On the real topic here, the pictures are pretty tight. The landscape is very beautiful and a couple of the pictures really capture it well. I think that last pic with the little guy and the giant guy, he looks like an old school axe exicutioner.

Tom Clancy also wrote a book in I think 1999 where a 747 slammed into the Capitol building in Washington (sorry if I'm way off on its name). Cept in his story it was a Japanese pilot who was disgruntled because during a skirmish between the USN and JSDN his son had died. Oh and the plane was empty but it was the state of the union address so the entire US government ... except for Clancy's protaganist survived.

I nearly peed a little and then sat there listening to the music in shock until it replayed twice. That beats putting the "attack here" flag on Australia while its labelled France.

I think the no political posts has nerfed the forums. They're boring now. I understand with so few regular posters it dominates the forums, but a few feisty arguments is better than no posts at all. Especially when this mod itself is set in a political construct.

I won't say anything more, i've said my bit. I just wanted my feelings noted.

Regarding the landscape pics... it's a shame the region is so f**ked up, it's a georgeous part of the world.
Jonathan_Archer_nx01
lol It was a joke. Nothing to do with serious politics.

I just want to know who's feelings are getting hurt.
