since the old topics are lost(it seems so )
i want to restart the fire finder discussion

since im too lazy to search the pictures i posted and rewrite the whole text heres a short version :

Fire-Finder-Radar :

-finds out the location where the artillery shot by using millimeterwave-radar
-gives informations to special counter-battery rockets , which will destroy the arty (if its still there) with 150 kg of explosives ,consisting of handgrenade compareable bomblets
-germany , usa and russia got it
-russia can give them to ukraine as help
-evrey nation in the game/mod has then mobile arty and fire-finder-radar
-will add addiotional gameplay to the mod , because the arty-crews will have to change their position after they've shot , just like IRL

because i dint understand the logging in terms my name here is max instead of lockinator (but my sig speaks for me)

so continue discussing guys

Major problem among quite a few others as was stated in the last thread is this turns into a fire fight just between artillery the entire map.

Kill or be killed, a guy fires at you, you die, you seek vengeance, you fire on him, he dies, he seeks vengeance. It makes it all the easier when they can see exactley where it is comming from.

My main problem is that the "counter-strike" will probably be more accurate and deadly than the shell coming from the mobile arty. Unless the mobile arty gets some kind of whiz-bang super accurate targeting radar, it's going to be completely ineffective in it's intended role.

You get to line up a shot and fire one shell only to have a bunch of cluster bombs raining down on your position a half minute later? Seems to me that the mobile arty would be avoided like the plague.

I wouldn't have a problem with something a little more toned down for gameplay purposes. As a counter-suggestion: Say a piece of mobile arty fires 2-3 shells from the same position/roughly the same position. At that point enemy artillery, if they are the rough area of where the shells are falling, would get some kind of automatic 'target spotted' cue that reveals the position of the shooter and allows for a manual counter-strike.

I just think that it's a little silly to automatically pelt a guy with cluster munitions as soon as he fires one measley shell from his howitzer / force him to constantly move after every shot. It's not like it's going to be a battery of four guys firing at once.

I like that counter battery radar idea very much.

But I think it shouldn't be an automated process.
The radar should be operated by one man, that than gives the position of the hostile arty to his teams arty (or counter battery missiles). Then they have to use this coordinate in some way (maybe something similar to the old BF spotter arty, but maybe with uav instead of binocs/cameras) in order to hit the enemy artilery. And if they don't work fast/accurate enough, the arty guy can change his position before they can hit him. Or he even can stay in that area for a second arty strike.

Who is going to want to spend any decent amount of time as a radar operator?

Nobody is sitting at home waiting for PoE2 just so they can relay enemy arty coordinates to teammates.

Well I don't biggrin.gif
But it could be a job for the commander e.g.

Shell radar is good, thats definatly something that would work really well in PoE, but an automated counter-rocket strike isn't going to fit into that kind of gameplay. What would be better is to give commanders and self-propelled artillery crews shell radar so they can see the shells (not the artillery firing them), and then take a guess at where they are originating from. It shouldn't be hard either, considering how long artillery shells remain in the air (on a 2d plane, they appear to move very slowly, since its mostly traveling vertically than horizontally).

of course it shouldnt be automatically

maybe quite long reloading times , only three rockets and not the best exactness

maybe the guy in the counter battery looks at a map / display where the area where the enemy's arty is shown in a circle where it could be
of course the circle shouldnt be too big , and not as small as the area where the rockets siread their bomblets

or just take the boblets out , and let a rocket behave like one arty shot in vanilla bf2
