Ive seen the E3 trailer on the EA website for BF2, and I was wondering about the laser designator. Ive noticed there are weapons and other things lingering in the files and are not in the game. Such as the M82 .50 cal. sniper rifle and the AH-60 Battlehawk. Would it be possible to dig this out of the files if it is there is a laser designator that can work in conjuntion with the attack aircraft and helicopters in the game?

I really hope so - that was one of the 'features' of BF2 that I eagerly anticipated, along with destructable terrain...

Apparently the dest. terrain will be a lag fest, but I can't see a reason why the laser designator should be excluded.

The laser designator is sort of working. You can get it in the game. You can put it up to your eyes, but the model is incomplete so you just see an outline of the designator and the red dot. You can click and it will say something like "Lasing Target", but that's about it.

I think a laser designator would be great. Set up some laser guided bombs (F-117 Nighthawk anyone?) and it could work very well.

A bit like requesting support that will be dispatched by the comp? Yoo have the charge bar, you design a laser target for a cruise missile or a laser guided bomb from a F-117 and it will be automatically to where you pointed. You can only re-request it when your charge bar is full again.
Maybe it should be a common charge bar for all players on a team, to prevent spamming. Or just allow a few bombs to be dropped in about 2 minutes.

Not quite. Spec ops would have a laser designator. They could paint a target and request an air strike on it. Then, a pilot would see on his HUD where the painted target is. He flies over to it, drops the bombs, and if he dropped them at the right time they will guide exactly onto the painted target.

Either that or i reckon it'd be a good tool to be used by squad leaders

The only problem I see with this is if it could be done on a public server?

I'm all for those easy kills. I spend all my time in cockpit of helicopters these days popping people left and right. I hate when I have a crappy gunner that uses all MG or all camera-feed. So i have one of my friends fly with me. VOIP is great too. If you guys want to play with me here's my xfire: RussianSharpShooter

Just make it so that the pilot can lock onto the target and get a guranteed kill. The kill would be easy, but you would need to use teamwork in order to get it.
It will encourage teamwork, and people will actually take free kills everytime they're given the oppertunity.

shouldnt be "guaranteed"

how about making the bombs "homing" but iwth no inherent thrust, so you still have to release at a reasonable time/height...

no locking on. if you have a laser, the bomb will follow it like a beacon. simple, if you move the laser, the bomb will head toward that. no lock. it lokcs on the laser, not th target.

I think the bomb should lock on to the point where the laser is fired, but only with reasonable flightpath corrections. Not turning 180 degrees.

Yeah uh, or we could do something that's feasible on the BF2 engine. It sounds great nice on paper, but that's almost like asking for an xm-29 OICW with 40mm grenades you can program.

Actually RSniper that OICW idea sounds pretty cool lets suggest it :D

lol how about lets make it simple. If the laser designator is aimed at a vehicle or infantry, it locks on to that infantry as long as the LD is still painting it.
