POE2 News #129

Welcome back for a very tardy #129th Point of Existence News update.

Point of Existence 2 has been in development for over four years now. We feel it is time to announce that we are ceasing active development for the Battlefield 2 engine. We want to thank our fellow developers, testers, fans and all of the sites that have supported our mod over the years. This has been a work of love for many of us and we hope that you continue to enjoy what we have created. We intend to support any technical issues that may arise from the (cough) upcoming BF2 patch and will respond quickly if the need arises.

Every Tuesday and Friday nights Tactical Gamer is packing the house with PoE! Each Tuesday and Friday TG packs their server and runs many of the larger maps as well. Its a great time to come out and support the mod and even frag a few PoE Devs. TG is also organizing scrimmages every two weeks along with special events to showcase some of the other game modes PoE2 has to offer such as Frontline and Nuke.

We are feeling a little nostalgic and decided that it might be time to revisit PoE1. We are working on an updated final release of our epic modification for Battlefield Vietnam. We encourage you to dust off those old disks and find your serial numbers, or in the extreme go out and spend $10 and pick up a new copy! This release will have greatly improved COOP as well as fixing some long lost bugs. We'd like to thank Dnarmo and Legion for their outstanding work in adding bot support to PoE1!

Server owners who are interested in hosting PoE1 servers, please contact us and we will make some arrangements so you can be ready for our pending release.

Stop by our forums and lets begin a discussion about our next project!

Sad, but I guess we all knew it would come.

I have definitely been enjoying many hours playing PoE:1 and 2, and I want to thank all the devs for the hard work they put in the mods for so long. :salute:

I hope i can get my BF2 working again so i can show up on the TG servers once in a while, in the mean time i'm eagerly waiting for whatever improvements will be released for PoE:1

Yes, this is sad. But I knew it was going to happen.

I'm very glad to see PoE1 BF:V getting a little love again! Extremely happy indeed.

Time to go game engine searching I suppose then, eh?

Point of Existence is the only mod that made me come back year after year. The first version of the mod for Battlefield Vietnam sparked my interest for this mod by providing high quality gameplay in a high quality environment. The continuous support on the mod and the willingness of the developers to listen to the fans made this mod a unique experience. During the proces of developing the mod slowly became a game on itself; playing the original game was a completely different experience from the mod.
The second version of the mod for Battlefield 2 brought the fans to a new setting, from the desserts we got into forests, mountains, big cities, snowy valleys and much more. Not only did you manage to make a total conversion by replacing the maps, vehicles, sounds, and the balance; but you also managed to make new gamemodes, a new artillery mode (2 versions!) and again providing a totally new experience from the original game.

The team did a outstanding job on creating not only 1, but 2 state-of-the-art total conversion mods and i would like to congratulate the complete team on this stunning achievement.

I've greatly enjoyed your work and would like to thank you for it. I hope that you didn?t only succeed on making a great game for the fans, but that you also were able to make a good portfolio. The reason for this is that i think that this team has unique qualities that could greatly contribute to the gaming industry.

With kind regards,

TRR

:) Thanks guys, I can't wait to frag some of you again in POE1.

In the meantime, I hope you support TG and the other BF2:POE2 servers!

Best game and community ever. Thanks to everyone who was involved in making it. I only wish i knew about it a couple of years earlier, instead of wasting my time in vanilla bf2 i could'v played poe. But its up to us players to keep it alive. Maybe try a third game night on tg, or scrims with more player slots.

But the most important thing is: keep playing!

It has definitely been a blast working on this mod for so long, sad to say we are ending bf2 development but I am very optimistic about the future! With all the new next gen engines to choose from there is just so much more thats possible which wasn't possible in the bf2 engine, I have a very strong feeling this will not be the last you see of us! :D

Huge thanks to all the people who played our mod over the years and another huge thanks to all the developers and testers that made this mod possible! I will miss the good times but there will be plenty more good times to come! :p

Disappointed but not surprised since there hasnt been any news in a while. I found POE2 not long after i bought bf2....so i barely even played vanilla....i am glad that i got to play when there where enough players to stay on 32-64 players every night. i will keep on showing up for the regular nights. it would be cool if a night or 2 when there are always zero players...could be switched to co-op mode so a few of us could still enjoy playing. that way we could still fly and bring out all the cool toys even if there are only 5-10 players or something. POE2...i wonder how many marriages and friendships were destroyed because of this mod? people told me they thought i died because they hadnt heard from me for over a year hahah!

Very sad news guys, but couldn't say I didn't see it coming :(

I was quite a big fan of POE1 myself, I played it way more than BFV and always been a huge supporter of this mod. I think you guys have done some very top notch work over the years and you should be VERY proud of what you have archived here! Even thou the players didn't stick to the mod, guess we can only thank DICE's wonderful mod support and there ranking system for that hu? :(

Best of luck for the future guys! I will be reinstalling BFV and POE1 and POE2 to give it some of the love it deserves!

I hope to see you guys doing bigger and better things in the future, cheers! :D

It came as no surprise, but yet, as a surprise.

It has been many, many hours that I?ve been concentrated in the ?Hind Mi-24p? looking for ?Gepards? and the rest of the enemy bunch.
It also has been a bunch of times when I reloaded the ?Beretta?, as the foe was approaching me on ?Olesko Keep?. God damn it! The worst shotgun ingame!

We were so proud back in the datorbutiken.com days when we started up our two PoE2-servers and we hosted Midweek Mayhem every Wednesday. We joined the One Black Sheep?s server and continued the battles, and on very late nights (local time) there was of course TG?s and all the killers there.

I would like to say; thank you very much, to the PoE2-crew that worked so hard to make ?Point of Existence 2? a great and playable mod.

You can be proud guys!

Regards,
Magrioteli

It?s crazy how far things have come since Andreas was putting stuff into bf1942? to our releases on BF:V then later onto BF2? Seems like only yesterday that we were all sitting around IRC talking about what we wanted to do, hard to fathom that more then 5 years has passed in that time.

I guess what I am most great full for all the people I?ve been able to meet over the years, and the friendships that have blossomed as a result. Initially we just wanted to bring a modern warfare element to BF:V? that soon changed into a group of really amazing people working together as hard as we good sometimes leaving work only to work on our passion until all hours of the night.

There have been so many people who have come and gone over the course of our development, it?s amazing that there is such great passion out there for making something creative.

More over it?s been really touching that there is so many supportive people out there in the community that supported us from the get go and saw what we saw.

I guess what I?m trying to elude to is that I?m really happy to have taken part in developing POE1 and POE2, it was a launching pad into a career which I love, and I was fortunate enough to meet some truly amazing people over the course of that time?

I?d hardly say this is the end of POE but rather the start of a new chapter, where we go next isn?t exactly clear but the passion that was the basis for what we do and have done is still there? rest assured you haven?t heard the last of us.

Thanks again to all the support and passion that has been behind us all the time, and we hope that continues in the future wherever that may lead us.

Let us hope that the next engine this mod will use will be a proper, versatile and dev-friendly one, and not the headache these past ones were. If the dev team was able to make the Battlefield engines shine like they did, who knows what a real mod engine will bring!

Well done, guys  :)

And damnit I never got to be a tester :(
