Well, I am getting ready to 'finalize' Olesko and wanted to get your opinion of what worked better for the map.

'Old' Version - My final lightmaps and other new work will remain, but gameplay will be brought back from the previous version.

'New' Version - Final lightmaps and other work remain, new 'king of the hill' style gameplay will remain.

I will be happy with either setup, so its really your opinions that will help me decide.

It's tricky on the 1 hand olesko as it is now doesn't have enough flags and the courtyard flag is too exposed. Perhaps you could add a couple of flags and some statics in the surrounding area to spread the map out a bit.

a good squad leader makes up for the lack of spawn points - the map is too confined to have more.

Why not both? Call the king of the hill one "king of olesko" or something and then the different servers can decide which one better fits their playerbase.

The 'new' version is the version that was in our last release. So its nothing new if you have the present release (except for some icing I added to the map).

Just to be clear... The "new" thing I was refering to is that players can only spawn in their uncap.
It's the only map that has this feature ( I think ) :?

Ah, yes, thats the version I was talking about.

I liked that plan, thought it forced people to actually move to the flags and take them (thus spreading them out quite a bit more). It also encourages a good squad leader to take a position in the castle and become a mobile spawn point.

Keep the new version. It seems to promote more teamwork. Plus it's the only map like this, so it's a nice change of pace/tactics.

I also voted 'old'
In the new version, you're too dependent on your SL. If he sux, you have to spawn at the far end over and over again.
But I have to admit, if you have a decent SL, the new version equals the old

also: I believe the role of the SL is somewhat problematic on the new version
- if you're a "good" SL, you'll play somewhat conservative to stay alive and deliver troops near the frontline --> a bit more dull, a lot of people don't want to make that sacrifice
- if you're a "bad" SL, you'll fight along, get killed regularly (seen the general pace of the fighting), forcing your squad members to take a long hike...

and another thing: I've experienced numerous deadlocked games when the opposing team occupies the whole castle. If your own team isn't working together for 110% (rare on pub servers), there's almost no way to fight your way in again. Those situations are really annoying and frustrating.
I felt the old layout led to more balanced fights, IN the castle
just my :2c:

i agree with 2 versions. some servers (TG for instance) are more squad related and you often will have intelligent squad leaders. Other servers dont have that, and the old keep was like a accelerated version of trails 16p(or think 50 some people on trails 16p) . I liked the old map cuz it was cool to run around, hide behind corners, then surprise people(or get surprised) and not worry about walking to get back into combat. it was like adding a bit of R6:vegas into PoE which i dont mind once in a while. also, the limited ammo makes u choose between the overpowering AP round and more conventional rifles. the m4 could use a bit less ammo, cuz it was god on that map, but thats a different topic

How about keeping the old layout but have no spawn points in the castle except for squad leaders?

Well, why not make the 64 version the 'old' version, and 32 the 'new' version, since from my looking at the minimaps and playing them they don't come off as much different.

I dont see a problem with having to run 100m (max) until you reach combat. Id rather be forced to "reset" my progress, than to be spawncamped.

Ok, the general concencus seems to be turning into '2 for the price of 1', with minor optimisation for different styles of play for servers.

Although I do not have POE2 working yet myself, I believe this option would be the best, certainly it gives more people the chance to play irrespective of location (ping/server connection preformance) and individual player preferences.

It also means that more people will be happy, create more mod enthusiasm, more 'by word of mouth' advertising etc. Not to mention, could lead to a future remodelled Olesko map, post battle damage senario.

Not meaning to 'dip my oar in' so to speak, but just highlighting a few points.

One version coukd be called 'Keep Olesko', though the 'King of Olesko' is also a good suggestion (sorry I forgot who suggested it ;P .)

It would be far easier and 'cheaper' to do as smokey has suggested and just do different styles for the different sizes.
